Inspection and Testing of Fire Alarm Systems

Inspection and Testing of Fire Alarm systems is a course that explains the requirements defined in the 2016 edition of NFPA 72, also known as the Fire Alarm and Signaling Code. The course begins with an overview of NFPA 72, Chapter 14. The purpose and scope of the three types of testing are explained. The student will learn how to navigate the inspection and testing tables in NFPA 72. Commonly referenced areas of the inspection and testing tables will be discussed in detail. Examples of testing detectors with the proper equipment and methods are provided.

At the conclusion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate the application, purpose and documentation requirements for inspection   and  testing as defined in NFPA 72, Chapter 14
  2. Learn how to interpret the inspection and testing tables in Chapter 14
  3. Apply the procedures to test the secondary power supplies and batteries
  4. Select the proper method for testing the various types of smoke detectors
  5. Differentiate the types of heat detectors and testing requirements
