What are the initial educational requirements of the State for an Alarm Installer?
An Alarm Installer must submit an application to the Department which includes:
– Alarm System Contractor Application
– Copy of employers Certificate of Liability Insurance
– Copes of qualifying Certifications for each endorsement selected
– Check made out to Iowa Department of Public Safety for the total licensing amount
– Check for criminal history
– One Fingerprint card (FBI form FD-258) inked or digital in black ink
– Original signed waiver form
Endorsement 2 – Nurse Call System
• Licensed Professional Engineer State of Iowa-emphasis Alarm Systems (attach copy of License)
• NICET Level II or higher Fire Alarm Systems (attach copy of NICET certificate)
• Level II / AEIT (attach copy of certificate)
• Certification by a nurse call system manufacturer (attach copy of manufacturer training certificate)
Endorsement 3 – Security Alarm System
• Licensed Professional Engineer State of Iowa-emphasis Alarm Systems (attach copy of License)
• NICET Level II or higher Fire Alarm Systems (attach copy of NICET certificate)
• Level II / AEIT (attach copy of certificate)
Endorsement 4 – Alarm System Maintenance Inspector
• Licensed Professional Engineer State of Iowa-emphasis Alarm Systems (attach copy of License)
NICET Level II or higher Fire Alarm Systems (attach copy of NICET certificate)
• Level II / AEIT (attach copy of certificate)
Endorsement 5 – Dwelling Unit Alarm System
• Licensed Professional Engineer State of Iowa-emphasis Alarm Systems (attach copy of License)
• NICET Level I or higher Fire Alarm Systems (attach copy of NICET certificate)
• Level I Alarm (attach copy of certificate)

What Elite CEU courses are approved for credit with the state?
The Alarm Level One is approved in Iowa for Dwelling Unit Alarm System Installers.
The AEIT is approved in Iowa for Security Alarm System installers.
The Elite CEU Advanced Electronic Intrusion Technician certification will qualify an individual for the installation endorsement for security alarm system which will allow installation only in commercial settings. It does not allow for testing or maintenance.
The FAIT is approved in Iowa for the Fire Alarm System Endorsement on an Alarm System Installer License.
Licenses are issued for a three year term and expires on September 30th.
