What are Contractors continuing education requirements for the State of Florida?
14 hours every two years (The next renewal date is August 31, 2020)
14 hours of Continuing Education must include:
• 7 hours technical (T)
• 1 hour workers’ compensation
• 1 hour workplace safety (S)
• 1 hour business practices (BP)
• 1 hour Florida Building Code advanced module course
• 1 hour Florida Laws & Rules
• 2 hours false alarm prevention (for all certified and registered alarm contractors and certified electrical contractors who perform alarm work) (FAP)
• Remaining hours general credit
A person initially licensed 12 or more months prior to the end of a biennial period is required to complete 7 hours of continuing education as a condition of renewal. Of the 7 hours of continuing education, 6 of the hours must be in the following areas: 2 hours technical, 1 hour business, 1 hour worker’s compensation, 1 hour work place safety, and 1 hour laws and rules. For alarm system contractors and electrical contractors actively engaged in alarm contracting, the remaining 1 hour shall be in false alarm prevention. For all other license holders, the remaining 1 hour shall be a general continuing education credit.
What are the requirements to become Fire Alarm System Agent (FASA) or Burglar Alarm System Agent (BASA) certified?
Each FASA / BASA applicant must complete 14 hours of study followed by a proctored exam to become certificated in the State of Florida.
Each FASA/BASA agent must complete six (6) hours of Board-approved continuing education every two (2) years, to include false alarm reduction (See 489.5185, Florida Statutes and Rule 61G6-12, Florida Administrative Code for additional information on FASA and BASA requirements).
